From Medical Doctor to Wellness Coach
My JourneyWork with Me
I struggled with my weight my entire life. As a little child, my first best friend was a bag of plain M&Ms. I felt left out from the world as an obese person, and I thought losing weight would make me happier and more loveable. I lost weight a dozen times, but every time I lost it, I could never hold on to it. I always fell back into old patterns. I imagined that there was some secret I didn’t have that was keeping me from reaching my goals, and that once I learned this, I would magically reach my goal weight and never struggle again.
As I progressed through my training as a doctor, I also became increasingly frustrated with what mainstream medicine tries to tell us about weight management, which obviously is not working as our country becomes heavier, and, without ever admitting how our food environment in many ways has set us up to fail. My company Intention Wellbeing is the culmination of years of trying different approaches, learning as much as I could, and finally putting the pieces together in a way that worked for me.
I want to help people find their own unique paths using a set of universal guidelines that anyone can follow. Start with your body as it is, right now. Add in real food. Take the time to ask what it is you really need in this moment. And then meet those needs. It’s a simple recipe, but it’s powerful when you commit to it. Now that I’m at my goal weight, I realize that I am happier here, not because I think my body is more loveable this way, but because the process of getting into this body opened my heart and taught me how loveable I always was. The gift of weight loss has brought me back to myself.
